Give Before You Get… To Build Trust
There is a great post over on DoshDosh about giving before getting.
And I think the point she is really driving home is building trust, which is at an all time premium on the Internet today. There are a lot of different ways to build trust: professional web design, testimonials, partnerships, obvious contact info, etc. But everyone has just about figured that out. So how do you differentiate yourself from the masses?
Building Trust
You can build trust by showing that you know what you are talking about. And you can show that you know what you are talking about by giving away free and valuable content.The content may only seem like it is free, but in today's try-before-you-buy Internet space, it is not free. If the content you give away is truly valuable, you immediately gain the respect and TRUST of those you benefit from it.
With that trust, it becomes easier for individuals to take additional steps, signing up for a newsletter or making a purchase on your recommendation.
Putting a Value on a Giveaway
The next time you are contemplating a free giveaway, ask yourself what you get in return. Is it simply a sales lead? If so, maybe you should rethink your strategy to giveaway something that not only generates leads but also builds trust.
