Keywords 101, Anchor Text and Link Building

A great article that simply breaks down the process of keyword selection, which is as important for on-page SEO as it is for link builders. Know your targeted keywords and a number of keyword variations. Creating links that simply target the front page of your website with an anchor text of “click here” or “yoursite.com” is useless.

Link Building and Keywords

Once you have paired down the list of keywords, create a web page that targets 2-3 related keywords/keyword phrases. And then start building links that point to that page. Here’s a few tips to follow:

  • Use keywords, but don’t keyword stuff.
  • Target 2-3 keywords/keyword phrases for each web page.
  • Use variations of the targeted phrase. Using the same exact phrase appears spammy and will raise warning flags.
  • Try to keep links close to relevant body text.
  • Don’t be afraid of NoFollow links or non-linking citations. It makes your link building appear more natural and it’s all good
  • Target deep pages as well as your home page.
  • Build links from a diversity of web pages (forums and blogs (posts and comments), social bookmarks, directories, solid 3rd party links, etc.)
  • The targeted web page should target the same keywords/keyword phrases
